CONSERVATION DISTRICT LEADER APPOINTED TO EPA AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—June 8, 2010—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced the appointment of new members to the Farm, Ranch and Rural Communities Advisory Committee. The FRRCC is an independent committee that advises EPA on a wide range of environmental issues of importance to agriculture and rural communities.

The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) congratulates conservation district official Lee McDaniel on his appointment to the Committee. McDaniel, a beef and crop farmer from Darlington, Md., currently serves on NACD’s Executive Board.

Mr. McDaniel is deeply involved in conservation issues both locally and nationally. He manages family-owned and operated Indian Spring Farms, is an active member of his local farm bureau and has been recognized as the Harford Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year. He currently serves as chairman of the Harford Soil Conservation District.

FRRCC members will provide useful insight to EPA Administrator Jackson and to the Agency on topics such as non-point source water pollution, agricultural air issues and environmental markets as EPA crafts environmental policies important to agriculture and rural communities.

Members were selected from a large pool of applicants. The new members represent academia, agriculture and allied industries, non-governmental organizations, and state, local and tribal governments.
Additional information on the Committee and a full list of members is available at http://www.epa.gov/ocem/frrcc/about.htm.
